Even if the plans are not yet set, this is the best time to begin to acclimate your body for open water swimming next Summer!

There are lists and lists of what to do. Books to read. Websites to surf. People to chat with about experience. Ice-cream to eat. New swimsuits, goggles, and swim caps to buy.

But there is only one thing that will ultimately help you be ready for the cold water of your open water swim in 2005 and that is,

SWIMMING IN COOL COLD WATER!

The very easiest way to acclimate to cold water swimming is to start now. Before the water goes frigid cold in your nearest open body of water. Stay in the water through the Fall season and the Winter if possible. Even if it is for short swims or dips. You will find that your reaction to the cold water will not be as drastic as when you miss 3 months and the drop of 10-15 degrees and suddenly dive back in next year!

Now I'm not telling the Eastern Europeans to cut a hole in the ice to swim... but try to find ways to get yourself in cold water. Cold showers, outdoor pools, feet dipped in icy water - it all works wonders!

Lets hear some of your creative cold water acclimation stories!!
