Day 9-Ten Day

Rimas Jakelaitis has a ten mile lead with only a day to go, and looking at his fifth title if his body holds up. Trishul has done his best to stay close, but Rimas superior running ability is the edge that few have left at this late moment in the race. Vladimir led all runners with 66 miles, as he is only eight miles back of Trishul. Nataliya has barely held off Sarah Barnett, with only a three mile gap separating the two lady warriors as the final 24 hours loom. Whoever stays on the course during the night will emerge the victor. Karnayati Morison has moved into third place over Pratishruti Khisamoutdinova, who is still battling a bad tummy. Must have been too many of those Russian bon bons that people brought for the runners! What a race.

Day 5-Six Day

Glen Turner has a significant 18 mile lead in the men’s race at 351 miles for five days, but is only one mile ahead of second woman Kaneenika Janakova, who is looking for another personal best past 407 miles for six days. Overall leader Dipali Cunningham has been battling a queasy stomach for days, but still is cranking out the miles. She reached 388 miles for five days. Ultra pioneer Ted Corbitt came out and visited the race for several hours, taking photos and admiring the runners and their determination. At 86 years, Ted still gets around and looks fit. Just a sidenote-Ted’s over 50 age group record for 100 miles(13:33) still stands on the record books. If they had six or ten
day races back in Ted’s primetime, just imagine what he would have done. More later!
