Day 1
Petr Spacil from Brno, Czech Republic and Nataliya Hlushchuk from
Ukraine are the early leaders after the first 24 hours of the Tenth
Annual Self-Transcendence Ten Day Race, being held in New York’s
Flushing Meadow Corona Park.Spacil garnered 77 miles, and Hlushchuk
tallied 75 as a spring thunderstorm pummeled the area followed by cool
temperatures and brisk winds. The Ten Day had 20 starters this year,
with another 34 runners set to join the fray on Sunday, May 1, for the
Eighth Annual Six Day Race. After 12 hours, Sarah Barnett from
Australia and Tibor Malits from Hungary were leading the pack with over
50 miles each. Mr. Spacil then caught up and passed them as the first
strains of dawnlight touched the night sky. Hlushchuk stayed right on
the heels of the men and is sitting tied for second overall.
