The "Gertrude Ederle" Trophy

Vedika Bolliger from the Swiss Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team was presented the Gertrude Ederle Trophy recently for her 22 hour 27 minutes solo 1-way crossing of the English Channel. The trophy is an annual award in memory of Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel.   Sadly, Ederle, who swam the Channel in 1926   from France to England in 14 hours 39 minutes, passed away at the end of 2003. The award is given for "The most meritorious Channel swim by a woman during the year." Bolliger received the award for 2003.
