Chris Carver's first 24 Hour Race

One of quite a few debutants in our 2006 race, Chris notched up an amazing 113 miles. Here are his thoughts on how the race went.

Dear Roger

I understand you have put out a request for comments about the 24 hour race for the website.

My comments would be:

Enjoyed my first 24 hour race and was amazed by the atmosphere and friendliness surrounding the whole event.

- used more vaseline than expected
- eating wasn't as big a problem as expected but I tried to eat a wide variety of foods
- running through the night around a track was a new experience which seemed to pass quickly
- ran fractionally too fast at the start with not enough walking breaks and paid for it from dawn till noon
- pleased that I was able to keep monitoring my situation over the entire 24 hours in order to change plans as necessary (which of course I did ... 2 or 3 times)

I'd like to thanks all the volunteers involved in making this race very special:  time keepers, lap scorers, caterers and others.  As a race organiser myself I fully appreciate what a fantastic job they did during what I consider to be the best organised and most fulfilling race I have taken part in since I began running in 1972.

Already looking forward to the 2007 event.

Chris
