Comments about our events

Just wanted to give you some feedback on my experiences in the Sri Chinmoy organised runs this year. I took up running events last year for the first time, at the (tender) age of 30 years old. I was unable to find a running club that could cater for my needs, so I felt I was stuck by myself. I set myself the objective of  pushing beyond my limits. With that in mind, I decided to run my first ever marathon in Christchurch last year (after watching a video called 'fat man running' - somewhat inspirational). I learnt a lot from the experience, unfortunately, not enough, heh. I proceeded to run the Dunedin marathon in September of that same year, and discovered the significance of pacing - the result being a sense of disappointment.

The Sri Chinmoy events in Hagley and Sumner in 2006 have provided me with the opportunity to test myself under strict, but amiable conditions. Knowing that the course, and times, are accurate, provided me with the feedback I needed on my progress to self-improvement. I appreciated the encouragement by members on the course, as well as the lack of 'place competitiveness'. Ultimately, I would like to run a marathon under 3 hours (not this year, though), and head towards running ultras. I am preparing for the Christchurch marathon in June this year, and the opportunity to run in the Sri Chinmoy events has helped my preparation. Thanks to you, and all of your staff.

Regards,
Luke Campbell

I always enjoy these runs because of the supportive and friendly atmosphere. The marshalls are so enthusiastic about applauding and encouraging everyone, that it really lifts my spirits and keeps me going.

Running along beside the sea in Sumner is really special with the fresh, salty air. Last Sunday I was very pleased to complete the Half Marathon in Hagley Park and meet so many lovely people. I was delighted to see a young woman complete her first half marathon. Everyone was enjoying being part of such a great run. The breakfast afterwards was an excellent chance to meet others too.

Unlike some events which are organised to make money and praise the first and fastest runners, these runs/walks are for everyone, where you feel that you can compete with yourself and achieve a good result.

Keep up the great work!

Sumner 5km Race, May 20th

This was my first 5k. It was a beautiful day and it was bliss to run in the sun, hear the surf and see the hills.

The whole event ran very smoothly and pleasantly - thank you to the team. I'll be back!

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the 50km event last Sunday. I feel I must comment on the friendliness and encouragement I received, both from support staff and others competing. It made it such a positive experience for me and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. Will hopefully be back for future walking events.

Thanks again,

I would like to thank everyone involved in organising and supporting the 50 and 100 km event. In particular, I would like to thank the people stationed around the course, the lap counters who were universally supportive and encouraging of my efforts, and the other participants, who provided such a friendly and welcoming environment. I look forward to participating in further Sri Chinmoy events.
