Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence Half-Marathon/ 10 Km - Auckland 27 May 07
131 runners finished the first race in the Self-Transcendence Half-Marathon/ 10 km '2007 Winter series', held recently at the Auckland Domain.

In the half-marathon Wondwossen Negash, a 1.09 man, ran with weighs strapped to his ankles ... using the race as a training run. He was joined by Warick Brenan, who had a 1990's best of 1.06, and they ran the race together.
Wondwossen took off the weighs at the 16 km mark and latter, with about 400 metres remaining, was still running shoulder to shoulder with Warick as they both started to accelerate. With only 200 metres left Wondwossen showed his Ethiopian class and produced an explosive kick that Warick could not respond to ... crossing the finish line in 1.19.48 to 1.19.55.
The women's half-marathon was won by Cornelia Sabine in 1.54.57 from Grace Mu Zawazi in 1.58.11
New Zealand 24 hour masters champion Gary Regtien 71, won the 70 plus age group half-marathon in a fine 1.52.27
Leon Drajer (36.04) easily won the men's Self-Transcendence 10 km from Peter Bosh (40.42). Emma McDonald-Laurs (47.04) was first in the women's 10 km from Kimberly Good (48.27).
