More record-breaking
Two new records were set at the Self-Transcendence 2 mile Tjarnarhlaup race last Tuesday, March 29, in Reykjavík
| Íslenska View more photos here Skoðið fleiri myndir hér The weather was optimal, despite the steady, light rain, for the two runners that ventured the Self-Transcendence 2 mile Tjarnarhlaup race, last Tuesday, March 29. Turning these optimal condition to their advantage, both runners set a record. Rúnar Páll came first at a time of 13:48. Not only was this Rúnar's first run since February 1st, his time was also a personal record for this year, the previous record being 14:09, set on January 25. Furthermore, Rúnar's time is only 14 seconds away from his absolute best, 13:34, which he set on November 30. Rúnar must, therefore, be accounted a likely record-breaker in the near future. Even though he came second to Rúnar, Ágúst's feat must be accounted greater in the sense that Ágúst's time, 14:18, was a new personal best for him. Ágúst's time now is a three-second improvement over his time on March 15, 14:21, and marks his third improvement in the month of March only. This series of improvements started on March 1, when Ágúst ran at a time of 14:24, improving his personal best by 14 seconds from September 7. These improvements of Ágúst are similar to Rúnar's four new records in the period between October 12-November 30 last year. And although Rúnar's leaps of progress are somewhat greater, measured in seconds, the progress of both runners stems from Sri Chinmoy's same inspirational philosophy of self-transcendence.
