Sports Day 1983

Sri Chinmoy raced 12 one mile races in the three months from 30 July to 29 October. His personal best time was 6:23 on 2 August. (This remains his all-time personal best) In 9 of the races his timing was under 7 minutes.

In Summer 1983 a second Grand Prix was held as part of Sri Chinmoy's birthday celebrations. From July 9th through to September 9th, Sri Chinmoy completed more than 50 time trials. On several days, he completed several physically exacting time trials, sometimes in close succession. Many of them were part of the Grand Prix series, while a few were solo races. The sprints were held at Jamaica High School track, at St. John's University track and even on the road in front of his own house. Sri Chinmoy also began to use spikes and starting blocks for some of the most significant sprints.
