Thanks to the Bilbys
by Martin Stiles
Unfortunately we had a mix up in our communications and after waiting a short time at Totem Pole beach I commenced the swim leg (not expecting to do so) in the chilly Lake Tuggers.
With no wetsuit or goggles and just speedos I got pretty bloody cold. At the other end my
team members were not there (not their fault as we had that communication mix up).
Standing out in the open after the swim I got very cold I can tell you. A friendly group
of guys and girls from the Bilby's club shoved some jackets and towels over me and piled
me into their HEATED car. They then took me back to the other side to be reunited with
my team mates. After a shot of hot tea I was able to complete the last run. I don't know
who they were, but they definitely exemplified the spirit of day. It is nice to do triathlons
with like minded crazy but caring people. So if they are out there, I want to say a big thanks.
