Sri Chinmoy Races Sydney Series 2008

The Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team offers a 9-race series at popular Sydney running venues through 2008. Each event includes races over 3 distances. All races start at 8 am with Registration opening at 7 am. Details of the 2009 series will be published here on 27 November 2008...

Race 1 Sunday 24 February 2008
Iron Cove 16 km, 8 km & 4 km run/walk
Leichhardt Park, Glover St, Lilyfield

Enjoy one of Sydney's favourite running venues, employing part of 'The Bay Run' used for Sri Chinmoy races in the '90s. A flat, fast harbourside course in a central location provides the perfect start to the 2008 series. Choose from 3 distances to suit your training and fitness: 4 km, 8 km or 16 km. Parking at the end of Glover St, Lilyfield. All races start at 8 am.

Race 2 Easter Monday 24 March 2008
Centennial Park 14 km, 7 km & 4 km (cross country)
Mackay Sportsground, Robertson Rd Gates

Relish the ponds, fields and groves of Centennial Park on a tailored scenic, fast loop of dirt tracks and grass. Run or walk the inner loop (4 kms), race the larger loop (7 kms) or double the larger loop (14 kms). The best way to enjoy the Park, and ideal start to a public holiday. Parking anywhere near Robertson Rd Gates. All races start at 8 am.

Iron Cove 16 km, 8 km & 4 km run/walk

Leichhardt Park, Glover St, Lilyfield

Returning to the ever-popular Iroon Cove. For those not participating in the SMH Half-Marathon, an opportunity to race a shorter distance or simply to enjoy a more intimate racing environment. Challenge your previous times over the same course or try a new distance from the 4 km, 8 km and 16 km on offer. Parking at the end of Glover St, Lilyfield. All races start at 8 am.

Race 4 Sunday 22 June 2008
Mirambeena 16 km, 8 km and 2 mile run/walk
Garrison Point, Beatty Reserve, Beatty Pde, Georges Hall

Treat yourself to something special. An exquisite course for aficionados of fine running, through native bushland between Prospect Creek and Lake Gillawarna. Starting and finishing on the grassy expanse of Beatty Reserve, off Beatty Parade at the southern end of Mirambeena Regional Park. The 2 mile course is flat, while the 8 km and 16 km routes include a few bracing hills. Relax post-race on the banks of Dhurawal Bay. Parking at the end of Beatty Pde, off Captain Cook Dr, Georges Hall. All races start at 8 am.

Race 5 Sunday 13 July 2008
Dolls Point Half-Marathon (21.1 km), 10 km & 5 km run/walk
Peter Depena Reserve, Russell Ave, Dolls Point

Returning to the scene of the Sydney Sri Chinmoy Running & Fitness Festival staged in the 1990s! Choose one of the classic distances of Half-Marathon, 10 km or 5 km. The course is through Cook Park, adjoining the beautiful Botany Bay and includes spectacular views from Captain Cook Bridge over the mouth of the Georges River. Start and finish is in the historic Peter Depena Reserve. Parking at the end of Russell Ave or Sanoni Ave, Dolls Point. All races start at 8 am.

Race 6 Sunday 3 August 2008
Prospect Creek 24 km, 12 km & 6 km run/walk
Jack Ferguson Recreation Area, Gipps Rd Sporting Complex, Greystanes

This new course follows cycle paths looping out and back along both sides of Prospect Creek. The 24 km race provides a perfect hit-out for those in training for the Sydney Marathon next month, with 12 km and 6 km options for those with shorter goals in sight. Start and finish at the Jack Ferguson Recreation Area adjacent to the Gipps Rd Sporting Complex off Gipps Rd, Greystanes. All races start at 8 am.

Race 7 Sunday 7 September 2008
Cooks River 16 km, 8 km & 4 km
Ewen Park, Tennent Pde, Hurlstone Park

A peaceful, leafy oasis in the bustling inner south, this boutique course on cycle paths with a short off-road section follows a 4 km wooded loop alongside the Cooks River between Hurlstone Park on the north and Earlwood to the south. Complete 1, 2 or 4 loops for the distances of 4 km, 8 km and 16 km. Parking off Tennent Parade, Hurlstone Park (adjacent to Sydney Olympic Sporting Club); 500 metres from Hurlstone Park railway station. All races start at 8 am.

Race 8 Sunday 2 November

Sometimes too much of a good thing is never enough... and so the series returns for the third time to Iron Cove, Sydney's running Heaven. Enjoy the camaraderie of fellow-runners from all over Sydney and beyond, gathered to challenge themselves and their rivals over the 4 km, 8 km or 16 km courses in friendly competition. Parking at the end of Glover St, Lilyfield. All races start at 8 am.

Race 9 Sunday 23 November
Centennial Park Half-Marathon (21.1 km), 7 km & 4 km run/walk
(cross-country)
Mackay Sportsground, Robertson Rd Gates

Enjoy the rare opportunity to race a cross-country Half-Marathon, or compete in the shorter 7 km or 4 km distances. While cross-country courses cannot be officially recognised, these loops are measured using the same method as certified courses. The best way to enjoy the delights of Centennial Park, one of Sydney's jewels. Parking anywhere near Robertson Rd Gates. All races start at 8 am.

Online entries have now closed.  Some late entries will be accepted on the morning from 7 am at Mackay Sportsground, near the Robertson Rd Gates Centennial Park...

  • Online, fax and postal entries close 5 pm Friday prior to race date.
  • All races commence at 8 am, with registration (number collection) and late entries from 7 am.
  • Prizes for age categories - longer and middle distances: 1st 7 U50, 1st 3 50-59; 1st 2 60-69; 1st 70+ (M&F); short distance 1st 3 U13; 1st 3 U17; 1st 3 17+ (M&F)
  • Walkers are welcome but no separate awards.
  • Post-race pancake breakfast for all.
