Impact of Works on Jindabyne Dam Wall

In order to divert more flow back into the Snowy River, works are currently underway on a new spillway and outlet at the Jindabyne Dam Wall. These works will have a small impact on the race.

Firstly, while the construction is in progress, the level of Lake Jindabyne is being maintained at minimum operating level.  In plain English that means the water level is presently very low, as low as it has been in decades.  While the low water level is not pretty, with larger expanses of exposed barren shoreline, there is still more than sufficient water for the swim and paddle courses to cover their full distances.  Swimmers and paddlers will have further to run from the water's edge to transition.

Secondly, the works are enforcing some delays to traffic crossing the dam wall (up to 10 minutes), so ensure you allow additional time when driving from one side of the lake to the other, as there is only one way around, and that's across the dam wall!

The lake should be back to its 'normal' level by the end of the year.
